Five Things to do on New Year’s 2020
First Night Alexandria
The family-friendly music festival in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia is celebrating both the start of a new decade and its 25th anniversary this New Year’s Eve.
The big event will feature live performances at dozens of indoor venues across the city, including retail stores, churches, and museums.
At midnight, the big finale includes a beautiful display of fireworks over the Potomac River. You can stand anywhere along the waterfront and you will be met with an incredible view.
If you would like to attend indoor performances, tickets will be required. Prices for the All-Access admission badges start at $25.
Bull Run Festival of lights
On New Year’s Eve, the Bull Run Festival of Lights and Holiday Village will be open for a special event to celebrate the coming year. Featuring rides, refreshments, and camel rides,
the New Year’s celebration will also be your last chance of the year to enjoy the carnival inside the Holiday Village.
The Bull Run Festival of Lights is a popular drive-through Christmas lights attraction in Centreville, Virginia, that is open seven nights a week from November 22, 2019, to January 5, 2020.
With over two and a half miles of lights strung up in Bull Run Regional Park, the Festival of Lights is great for kids any time of the holiday season,
but the Holiday Village is only open on select nights, including New Year’s Eve. The Festival of Lights drive-through attraction, the Holiday Village, and the Carnival all require separate admission.
Gaylord National Resort’s ICE!
In December, you can step inside a winter wonderland made up entirely of 5,000 blocks of ice collectively weighing 1.5 million pounds, hand-sculpted by 40 international artisans,
and kept at a chilling 9 degrees Fahrenheit. With a new theme each year, this interactive holiday attraction at Gaylord National Resort is one you won’t want to miss.
In 2019, the show’s theme is based on Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas and will be on display until December 30.
Georgetown GLOW
This stroll through DC’s most historic neighborhood will certainly make you light up as you pass by unique, illuminated artworks.
Georgetown GLOW has proven to be such a hit that it’s now a month-long celebration (Dec. 6 – Jan. 5 from 5-10 p.m.).
A group of artists, from locally renowned to internationally celebrated, will display works in outdoor spaces throughout the neighborhood.
Afterwards, wander through a winter wonderland at The Washington Harbour, one of our favorite places to ice skate in the District.
Christmas Town at Busch Gardens
Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, is one of the area’s most famous amusement parks, and each holiday season, the park is transformed into a holiday village for the annual Christmas Town event.
Christmas Town returns to Busch Gardens on select dates from Nov. 16, 2019, to Jan. 5, 2020. This festive event combines an immersive holiday experience with one-of-a-kind shopping and dining opportunities,
all-new holiday shows, and a spectacular Christmas tree decorated with dancing lights. In 2019, you can also climb aboard the Christmas Town Express for a 1.5-mile ride through themed holiday vignettes made of
two million Christmas lights; grab a picture with the 50-foot Christmas tree, Highland Stables’ Clydesdale horses, characters from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and Santa Claus; or sing and dance along to
seven exciting shows including “Scrooge No More,” “Elmo’s Christmas Wish,” “O’ Tannenbaum,” and “‘Twas the Night.”
