What is Teacher Appreciation Day?
National Teacher Appreciation Day known as National Teacher Day is part of the nationally recognized National Teacher Week which is the first week in May, May 4th – 8th 2015 and National Teacher Day is celebrated on the Tuesday of that week. This year, Teacher Appreciation Day 2015 falls on May 5.
It began in 1944 to honor teachers and Eleanor Roosevelt convinced the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day in 1953. In 1980, Congress declared National Teacher Day.
