This summer ESL students are engaged in a special program. Do you wonder what they are doing?

On the first week, students learned about formal dinner table manners and ways to set up a table properly, and students and teachers showed their special recipes and brought their food to share. The funniest time was when students made a presentation of their special recipe as a group. They used construction paper to make kitchen utensils and ingredients. Lessons on Formal Dinner Table and Recipes

On the second week, they went on a field trip to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC. It was such a challenge that they had to take public transportation and asked questions to strangers, which were assigned by teachers. But, it was good learning experience. They played Scavenger Hunter and had a delightful time at the zoo. Then, they also went to the Whole Food market to practice conversation skills. They came to recognize the name of food kinds and had opportunities to ask clerks lots of questions.

Music was the theme on the third week. Students learned about the history of US music and distinguished different types of songs. They also shared their favorite music and learned to play a piano. Each student also introduced their country songs and sang together.

This week a learning theme was survival English. Students learned practical expressions and engaged in various role plays. They also went on a picnic and brought their traditional food to share with class. Next week, we are going to wrap up our special summer program.
